The Foundations That Produced This Report

The Firelight Foundation supports and advocates for the needs and rights of children who are orphaned or affected by HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa. Firelight strives to increase the resources available to grassroots organizations that are strengthening the capacity of families and communities to care for children made vulnerable by HIV/AIDS. In our first five years, Firelight has made 380 grants to over 200 organizations in 12 Sub-Saharan African countries. We also share knowledge and expertise in early childhood development through our print publications, our website, and other media, with the aim of informing and influencing policy and practice. Save Africa’s Children, a program of the Pan African Children’s Fund, partners with faith-based and grassroots initiatives that serve orphans and vulnerable children in Africa and the Diaspora. SAC provides financial and material assistance to organizations in Africa directly responding to the needs of the most vulnerable children. We work with a variety of U.S. and African churches and denominations to carry out our work. Our grants assist community-based programs that are locally designed and managed, such as community schools, feeding programs, income generating activities, and AIDS prevention.
