Firelight Foundation is not accepting applications or letters of inquiry in 2010.
Like most other nonprofit organizations, Firelight has been considerably affected by the global economic downturn.
We are acutely aware that our income has fallen at the same time that the hardships and needs of children and families in Sub-Saharan Africa have been increasing. For this reason, we are working diligently to strengthen our fundraising efforts and reduce our overhead expenses.
In order to maintain support to our current grantee-partners, Firelight cannot accept letters of inquiry in 2010. In 2011, we will review our ability to commit to new partnerships. Please check our website in September 2010 for updated application information.
Until then, we encourage you to check our weekly Newsflash newsletter, which contains useful information on a variety of other topics, including potential sources of funding.
Please note that the Newsflash is a key means for Firelight to share information with community groups that do not have easy access to the Internet. To stay focused on our core mission, we do not include on our Newsflash distribution list individuals and organizations that are comparatively well resourced or have good Internet access. If you work with local counterparts, organizations, or other local partners based in Africa who could benefit from receiving the Newsflash, please encourage them to contact us at newsletter@firelightfoundation.org.
Firelight remains deeply committed to fulfilling our core mission of addressing the needs of vulnerable children and families. We remain true to our values and to upholding the quality of our partnerships with community-based organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa.
We wish you all the best in your efforts to support children, families, and communities.
