The Friends of Firelight (FoF) are volunteers and donors who serve as advocates and ambassadors for Firelight’s work with community groups serving children and families in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Friends of Firelight help advance our mission in a variety of ways, as their time and interests permit.
Friends of Firelight are asked to make an annual gift of $500 or more, if possible. Raising funds may also fulfill this requirement.
Friends are also asked to participate in one or more of the following activities, as their schedule allows:
Friends of Firelight are always invited to Firelight special events, but otherwise do not meet regularly unless they are members of a FoF group (see below).
Friends of Firelight who join before June 30, 2010 will be acknowledged as ‘Founding Members’.
While FoF members can work alone and serve as powerful resources, groups are welcomed and encouraged. These can be students in a class or school working on a project like a walk-a-thon, friends getting together to hold a garage sale, or others interested in meeting other Friends of Firelight to work together.
Creativity and energy are key! Being a Friend of Firelight should be an energizing, fulfilling, and fun experience.
Past fundraising projects for Firelight include: bake sale, jewelry sale, cross-country bike ride sponsorship, and The Cradle Project.
K-12 Students and College Students:
Student groups are encouraged to contact Sarah Kerlin, Development Assistant, to discuss their ideas and what, if any, support they need to translate their ideas into practice.
Later in 2010, Friends of Firelight will have special access on the Firelight Foundation website to submit news, stories, and ideas for helping Firelight. The Development Department is always glad to hear of your success stories and to provide you with the assistance you need. Please contact Sarah Kerlin, Development Assistant, at (831) 429-8750 or sarah@firelightfoundation.org.
