- International AIDS Candlelight
Memorial
May 21st, 2006 is International AIDS Candlelight Memorial
Communities around the world will be united in "remembering the
cause, renewing our commitment" through the event sponsored by
the Global Health Council (GHC). For more information go to www.candlelightmemorial.org.

Health Council
The Annual Conference of the GHC will be held in Washington, DC
May 30- June 2, 2006. For more information visit www.globalhealth.org.
- The International
AIDS Conference
The XVI International AIDS Conference will be held in Toronto,
Canada, August 13-16, 2006. The focus will be on the continued
urgency on the need for effective HIV prevention. Firelight is
sponsoring some of our select grantee-partners to participate
in the conference with the goal of focusing more attention towards
the effects of HIV/AIDS on orphans and vulnerable children.
- World
AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is observed on December 1. "Stop AIDS; Keep
the Promise" was the slogan of the World AIDS Campaign in
2005 which focused on promoting public awareness and social involvement
to ensure the lofty goals of eliminating AIDS are able to be accomplished.
History
- Firelight's President and Founder speaks at Global AIDS Convening
Kerry Olson, President and Founder of the Firelight Foundation,
presented the opening speech at the West coast premier screening
of Rory Kennedy's documentary film, PANDEMIC: Facing AIDS. The
event was sponsored by the Global Philanthropy Forum, and preceded
a day-long gathering of foundation leaders, individual donors,
NGOs, and significant HIV/AIDS scholars who met to discuss opportunities
for international philanthropy geared to changing the course of
the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
