Our Team

Lauren Maher, Senior Program Officer
Lauren joined Firelight Foundation in February 2008. Lauren is responsible for Firelight's Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe portfolios. Prior to joining Firelight, she served as Program Director for the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice at New York University School of Law. From 1998-2006, she worked at the Rockefeller Foundation, first in the Population Sciences program, supporting grantees working on adolescent reproductive health in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia and more recently as Program Coordinator for The Philanthropy Workshop, designing curricula and site visits for the donor training program. She also managed small grants to organizations working to respond to HIV/AIDS in Africa. In fall 2005, she joined the Women and Development Strategic Working Group in mapping out possible future directions for the Foundation and from 2002-2004, she served on the Foundation's corporate citizenship grantmaking committee. From 2003-2004, she was a Coro Leadership New York Fellow. Lauren serves on the Board of Directors for Global Learning Across Borders.

She is currently pursuing a Masters of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she is focusing on international health.
