As Grants Manager, Jim Laske provides technical and administrative oversight of Firelight’s grantmaking and contract development processes. He works closely with Africa-based Program Officers and the Firelight Programs Team to maintain the administrative flow of the grantmaking portfolios and capacity building activities in Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Lesotho. Jim has recently managed Firelight’s development of and transition to a hosted, cloud-based grants management system. He updates Firelight’s grants management and legal compliance procedures and processes contracts and payments. Jim travels to Africa occasionally to support and train Firelight staff and grantee-partners.
Jim is originally from Akron, OH. He earned a B.S. in Business Economics from Miami University and then served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the Kingdom of Tonga for three years as a small business development and education volunteer. After Peace Corps, Jim returned to school and earned an M.A. in International Development Studies from Ohio University with a focus on community-based development in water, sanitation and hygiene.
